It's also more portable than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with its compact size making the new iPad Air a very versatile device for word processing, digital sketching, gaming, messaging and lots more. This is not a cheap tablet, and if you don't need all that power we've detailed above, then there are definitely cheaper options that will suit you better. Of course, all this comes at a cost (though less of a cost since the new release). It's hard to think of any creative Pro who couldn't get a lot of use out of this iPad. It was the flagship model, the best of the best, and though it may no longer have the title, the 5th-generation iPad Pro is still a beast of a tablet. It offered the most computing power available in an Apple tablet, the finest display, and the fastest user experience. On my desk, hooked up to the iConnectivityAudio4+, it’s the perfect way to quickly put a song together.Need the best iPad you can buy? Well, that's now the iPad Pro 2022, but until recently it was this one. GarageBand has amazing support for keyboard shortcuts in iOS, and using it with the Smart Keyboard Folio is ideal. My favorite use-case is with GarageBand for iPad. But for quickly popping out of the house, or for using around the house, it’s perfect.

In fact, if I was traveling for more than a few days, I’d still take a Bluetooth keyboard and a stand for the iPad. This precludes me from using the Smart Keyboard as my full-time keyboard. I’ve asked around, and it seems that this doesn’t get any better as the keys wear in. I feel like I have to tap harder than usual, and even then I’m never sure if the key has clicked or not. Loose, because the keycaps twist, and stiff, because the fabric that comprises the keyboard also stops the keys from moving freely. The lack of a media-key row remains very annoying.
